Guided tours

Guided tours for adults

We offer guided tours on special topics in the new permanent exhibition, which can take place during or outside opening hours. Please contact us in good time if you are interested in a guided tour. The maximum number of participants is 20.

Between October 11, 2024 and April 6, 2025, we will also be offering guided tours of the special exhibition DUCKOMENTA®: Fest ENTschlossEN. The tour lasts approximately one hour and is offered at the same price as our regular tours (€40 during opening hours, €60 outside opening hours, plus admission costs). If you are interested in a DUCKOMENTA® guided tour, please contact us!

Classic tour through the permanent exhibition

4,000 years of locks and fittings

Learn about the history of locks and fittings! Here you can find out what inventions people came up with in the different eras and what uncertainties they were exposed to.
Duration: 60 minutes
Cost: during opening hours 40 €, outside opening hours 60 €, plus entrance fee

Of burglars and robberies

In an unusual atmosphere, you will visit the permanent exhibition and learn about crimes, robberies and threats in the different eras.
Duration: 60 minutes
Cost: 60 €, plus entrance fees. The guided tour is only possible outside opening hours.

Tour through Velbert city centre

City flair and stucco facades (currently not available)

We start in the museum with an introduction and then take a tour of the Gründerzeit house facades. We will learn about the art historical background and the former inhabitants of the houses.  
Duration: 90 minutes
Cost: during opening hours 60 €, outside opening hours 80 €, plus entrance fees

Guided tours for children

We offer special guided tours for kindergarten groups and schoolchildren, also outside opening hours. The maximum number of participants is 30. Admission is free for Velbert kindergartens and school classes. Only the guided tour fee applies.

What is a museum?

In simple words, it is explained to the children what happens in a museum. Afterwards, they take a tour of the exhibition, where many things can be touched and tried out.

Primary and lower secondary education

4,000 years of locks and fittings

The pupils explore the wide world of locks and fittings. In the process, they learn about the insecurities and securities of the individual eras and about security mechanisms. A lot is tried out and explored for themselves.

Why are locks made in Velbert of all places and since when? And what was the life of a "Schlotschmet" like? The children investigate these things and get to know their hometown better in the process.

Safe vs. Unsafe!

Threats have repeatedly led to new inventions and technical developments in human history. At the end of the tour, the questions are: What gives us an insecure feeling today? What innovations are currently giving us security? And where might this lead in the future?

Children between the ages of 6 and 10 are welcome to celebrate their birthday with us at the museum! A total of 10 children can participate.
